Flying...

Can make me crazy. Everything about it: purchasing tickets, packing, checking in, traveling with a toddler, etc. I am grateful, however, for the convenience of flying. Luckily we are in a profession that gives us lots of holidays. We almost always take advantage of those holidays and fly to, what my husband calls, God's Gift to the USA...better known as Georgia. We consider ourselves "frequent flyers", although we never seem to have enough miles to show for it. That's probably because we don't stick to just one airline...we go for the cheapest. Usually about 6 weeks prior to our departure, we start hunting the best prices. We've always used Kayak to search and it directs you to the site with the best price, whether it be Orbitz, Expedia, or the actual airline's site.
My mom recently sent me the link to Kim Komando's website where, on this specific day, she was giving tips on finding the best airfare. In this article, Komando states that some airlines have removed their prices from showing up on sites like Orbitz and Expedia and they even jack up the prices sometimes. Kayak only provides prices from other sites, so it's still safe to use, but it's recommended to purchase from the actual airline.
We recently saw on the news that your web browser can also affect the airline prices that you're finding. I didn't know if I believed this, so I did a little test. We have Internet Explorer and Chrome installed on our laptop. I used Kayak to search for flights from LAX to ATL on the same date on both browsers at the same time. Both returned the same price. I've been searching for flights in the past week, so I cleared the cookies and all other browsing data on both browsers and did the search again. This time Chrome's price was the same, but IE's price was $44 cheaper than what it was 3 minutes prior. Shady, huh???
In the news report we saw, they recommended using Chrome and not IE. So I don't really have any good advice on which browser to use, but I do recommend trying multiple ones, deleting the cookies, and outsmarting these sketchy airlines to get the best prices!

This was Connor the first time he flew in November 2009...

And this was him the last time he flew two years later...

We Love Weekends...

Especially when they're long! We didn't have too much going on, which made our weekend seem longer. On Friday our fun cousins came over for a nice meal of Orange Chicken, Mandarin Chicken, String Bean Chicken, rice, and cream cheese rangoons. Can you believe I cooked all that on a Friday???

We also baked cookies...

The cookies were so good that some of us couldn't stop eating the dough!

And the kiddos were sweet to let us take their pics of their craziness...

We finally got our pictures hung in the playroom. We've been trying to find cool ways to transform our formal dining room into a playroom. My handyman of a husband built a beautiful bookshelf to help keep all of Connor's books from being strewn everywhere...

It's working out great. :)

I stole an idea from my sister, put a little twist on it...and out came these pictures.

Now if I can get Connor to clean up the playroom every night, I will love it even more!

We had more company Sunday night and this time I actually cooked.

Mondays that can be spent at home...with family...in your pj's...doing nothing...are the best!!

Celebrate Love...

Especially on Valentine's Day! I usually don't like Valentine's Day and as my husband says, everyday is Valentine's Day in our house. Today was fun, though and here's why...

Yesterday as we were driving to church, I made a comment about all the people selling valentines on the side of road. There were so many and I didn't think anyone would actually buy from there. Then this morning I woke up and and was proved wrong...

Connor enjoyed them as he had his breakfast.

At work today, I also had these delivered.

It has become tradition for us to have a romantic dinner every year on Valentine's consisting of a heart-shaped pizza from Me 'N Eds. This year we even splurged and got a Cherry Coke!

After dinner, we let Connor open his little valentines from us, his cousins, his grandparents and his daycare. So fun!

Somebody was a little too excited about his valentine from his nieces.

I am so thankful for my family! My love for them is overflowing today and always!

A Special Day...

For a couple of reasons. First of all, it's beautiful outside! It's been sunny and 68 degrees all weekend. This kind of weather makes for a very happy toddler...which in turn means a very happy mommy...which in turn means a very happy daddy. :)

In December of 2008, we started attending The Well Community Church in Fresno. We knew from our first visit that this is where God would have us worship each week. We attended regularly and I got involved in the nursery. Once we had Connor, we didn't attend as regularly until he was old enough to be left in the nursery. And let me tell ya...that boy has had separation anxiety since that time. There was a point where we were getting paged every Sunday to go get him. It was so frustrating!! It got to the point where we didn't even want to go anymore. A sweet lady from my home town, Miss JanieBell, told me not to give up and to keep going to church even if he's cries the whole time, so we kept going. After his first birthday, he was getting better and we were getting paged less until...

In October 2010, The Well launched a campus closer to our home. Everything was new and different, especially Connor's classroom. It was like we had never made any progress and we were back to day 1. We couldn't even enjoy the service for watching the pager, just waiting for it to go off. The past couple of weeks have been better. He cries like a mad man when we drop him off, but his teachers have told us that he stops after about 10 minutes. But today was different...

TODAY HE DID NOT CRY!!! Not only did he not cry, but he almost jumped out of his daddy's arms to get down and play. We were shocked, as were his teachers! At the end of the service, I realized that we had not even taken our pager out to check it one time. His daddy was so proud of him, he treated us to a special lunch...at Wendy's. :)

Holiday Productivity...

Should be easy on days like today. It's a Monday, which can typically be a challenge to enjoy, but for whatever reason...we did not have to work today!! This is one of the reasons that I love working at the same place as my husband. This morning we slept in, had pancakes for breakfast, played outside, went for a walk...and all before nap time. I always look forward to nap time because I get some time to myself to do whatever I want. Usually it's a craft/sewing project, a room that needs cleaning, a little cooking, or even just putting myself into a TV coma for an hour...or two.

Today was a bit of a different story. While this morning with my boys was so fun, I had a funny feeling. It's hard to describe the feeling, but I think it was a combination of regret, dread, maybe a little shame. I definitely was not looking forward to nap time. And it all had to do with this...

I absolutely despise doing laundry. I don't mind so much sorting the dirty laundry and I can even start the washing machine. It's the rest that I struggle with. I've had to wash loads multiple times because I forget to put them in the dryer before they start to smell. It's very common for us to just get our clothes from either the dryer or the laundry basket instead of our closets. But this week is different. I went from a mountainous laundry basket to this...

And it only took about an hour to get it all folded, hung, and put away!
Now that the laundry basket is empty, somebody has a new toy!

I recently came to the realization that God just didn't make laundry one of my strengths and that's ok. So regardless of what my husband and my mother are thinking about me right now, just remember that He made up for it in other areas. :)

Super C

Anybody that knows my son knows that he gets into EVERYTHING! We can't leave anything lying around that we don't want to be used as a toy. And let me tell ya...he is alllllll boy! It's funny how even at such a young age, God is already shaping him into a little man. He loves all types of balls and I must say...he's got a pretty good arm for such a little guy. Every Wednesday morning he stands at the front door glued to the trash trucks. You would think Mickey Mouse was driving the truck because he's just in awe of them. Recently he discovered my t-shirt drawer. Oh what fun this has been! I have found some of my t-shirts in the most random places. The funny things is, he would try to wear the shirt around his shoulders like a cape. Like I said...all boy!

His t-shirt-cape infatuation got my creative juices flowing and I decided to attempt to make him a real cape. I got a sewing/embroidery machine last year for my birthday, but I'm very much a novice. My mom has been sewing for as long as I can remember and my sister started several years ago, so I had some encouragement. I knew I couldn't create it without step-by-step instructions, so I turned to my faithful friend Google and found this awesome blog. My nerdy mathematician hubby helped me with the measurements and within about 4 hours I had this...

I was very anxious for my little buddy to try it on, so as soon as he woke up I put it on him. And what do you know...he would have nothing to do with it. Well, not until his daddy modeled it first...

Such a great daddy! Now he loves his cape!!

Keeping Up With The Kirchmans

I really didn't think that I would cross over into the blogger's world, but it's been on my mind for quite some time now...so here I am. I can't promise that I'll be completely committed to this blog, but I'll sure do my best. I guess the main reason I'm doing this is to share fun things that are happening in my life as a wife to my best friend and a mommy to a fun little toddler boy. I stay pretty busy with my job, putting supper on the table, getting the laundry done and put away(a huge challenge for me), playing with my buddy, crafting, and keeping up with my favorite TV shows. Sounds boring. I hope this will be interesting enough for a blog. We'll see. Try to keep up!
