Adventures at the Cabin

Last weekend we decided that we needed to find a way to beat the heat, so we ventured up to Kyle's family cabin in Pinehurst, CA. This place has come to be one of my favorite places. There's nothing like sitting back under a blanket, listening to the creek, reading a book, and enjoying this sweet little hiding spot with my family. My mom has been visiting for the past two weeks and Kyle was especially excited to show her the place that is nearest and dearest to his heart, where he has spent a great deal of his life.
One of Connor's favorite parts is to walk down by the creek. The water was very cold to me, but he probably would have jumped in had I let him.

Another of his favorite things is that he gets lots of snacks. This peanut butter cookie was a treat!

We took a long nature hike and stopped at lots of cool places for pictures.

We found a pear tree and couldn't keep this little man away. We're still enjoying some of those pears!

Apparently ladybugs hibernate in this area. My mom and I were amazed at the rocks and trees and railings that were covered with ladybugs.

More fruit, but these apples weren't quite ready to be picked.

It was such a fun day relaxing, exploring, and admiring God's beauty. I can't wait to get back up there!

Aunt Fun

I had the pleasure of getting to Skype with my sister and her ca-razy family after work today. Man do I love those girls! Those 15 minutes put me in such a happy mood for the rest of the night (so much so that I even mopped tonight...on a Monday!). Tomorrow my youngest niece turns 3...which does not seem right! Happy birthday to my sweet stinker 3-year-old niece!
(Is she not the most adorable thing you've ever seen?)

Now let me just say that being a mom brings the greatest joy. And being an aunt...is right up there, too! One of the hardest parts of living across the country is being away from my two nieces. I miss them everyday! Kyle and I love the way they talk (even when it's sassy) and we often find ourselves using their language. "Anna did you know...?" and "Connor is a fat baby." and "Big Red is a roosta!" and "Bouncer you are a boxer that don't bark. Doug Teachey is gonna spank your hiney if you don't stop barking!" I love getting my hair and nails done from them and attempting to do theirs as well. And one of my favorite things is the seeing what dress-up clothes they will march down the stairs in next. They are allll girl and I love everything about them. It has been so fun watching them grow. I am so thankful for them.

Georgia On My Mind

Wow...what a whirlwind of a summer it's been! We spent some of June and all of July with my family in Georgia. It was so fun! Connor got in some good quality time with his grandparents, aunt and uncle, and fun little cousins. We did so many fun things during our time there. Here are just a few of the highlights...

Spent a week at the beach! (Read more about it here)

We visited some good friends in Savannah...

(I can not believe the all the cuteness in this pic!)

We went to the GA Aquarium...

The best part about being in Georgia is spending time with so many people that we love and that love us. We adore our life here, but we definitely hold Georgia near and dear! Thanks to everyone that helped make our time in Georgia so fun!!

We LOVE everything summertime...

Yummy home-grown veggies...

(Ok, the corn is not home-grown)

Seeing friends any day of the week...

And getting creative with ways to keep cool...

Summer officially started for us about two weeks ago, so we haven't checked everything off of our list just yet. We've got many other fun things planned with friends and family, so I'll be adding more pics soon!

Memorial Day Weekend

The past several weeks have been pretty hectic as we're ending our work year and getting ready for summer. This weekend we made sure to make time for some R&R, as well as some fun with friends and family. Saturday morning we celebrated a special little girl's birthday at a fun Minnie Mouse birthday party. When we got to the party, Connor recognized Minnie in a balloon and screamed as loud as he could "Hey Minnie!!" while waving to the balloon. He was pretty pumped about the theme.
Connor is not afraid of anything at the park. He wants to play on all of the big kid equipment, which keeps me a little tense the whole time.

Because we were off Monday, we wanted to do something fun. The weather was so nice so we decided to take Connor to the zoo. Connor loves animals and making all of the sounds that animals make...elephants are his favorite.

One of our favorite parts of the zoo is letting Connor feed the giraffes. He is not hesitant at all!

But Not The Hippopotamus...

This is a special week for us because two of our closest friends are getting married on Friday. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful group of friends and we couldn't be happier for Stef and Caleb. Congrats! We love you!

Busy Busy Life...

Towards the end of April we jetted off to Atlanta for about a week. We were able to spend some time with my family, which is always fun...and entertaining, especially when Connor gets with his wild and crazy cousins. Here's a little peek at what our trip entailed.

One of my favorite parts of our trip was getting to see some of our lifelong friends. We have known and loved this family our entire lives and many of my childhood memories includes them. We're now spread around the country, but we all made it home for Easter.
What started as this...

Has now multiplied to this...
There are 18 of us...18!! That's just crazy!

We ventured back and life has yet to calm down. Last February I had a weird spot appear on my leg that turned out to be melanoma. I've been sporting a pretty nasty scar since, but someone recently encouraged me to view the scar as a reminder of God's faithfulness in healing my body. About a month or so ago, my dermatologist found a mole on my back that seemed abnormal. Sure enough, melanoma again. I was pretty discouraged when I first got the news that I was going to have to do this all over again. I had so many encouraging cards, texts, e-mails from friends and family...and so many reminders that God's got this. I had the procedure last week and am healing well.

In the same week we celebrated my birthday and Mother's Day. Connor's new favorite saying is "Happy Day!" He is just growing so fast...I love every moment with him.
